My handmade pottery provides a high quality alternative to everyday, industrially produced ceramic products. Handmade items are more enjoyable to use and provide unique form and function. The act of wheel throwing is a meditative and relaxing process. As I work raw clay into structured forms with a recognizable function, I feel a connection to the centuries spanning tradition of ceramics and find purpose in the process of transforming clay into a new, useful form. Whether I work freeform and allow the clay to take whatever shape feels right at the time or work to achieve specific forms and effect, I enjoy shaping raw clay into a unique final product that deserves to be displayed and used. Glazes and slip decoration enhance the underlying form and beauty of the pieces. Ceramics has been practiced for thousands of years and I am proud to continue tradition.
My pieces are designed to be used daily or displayed purposefully. The user can feel the quality of a well-crafted mug or dish and often finds the everyday tasks of drinking and eating more enjoyable.
